Hinckley 33 Malvern 8

After being told off last year for not getting the match report and scores up on time, I have made the effort to get up at an ungodly hour on a Sunday to keep the punters happy.  By the way I am looking for a volunteer to write each week’s match report as my other club duties will not allow me to go to every first team game this year. Please let me know.

As always with a new season, a mixture of expectation and interpretation was in the air as the game kicked off. How were the new players going to gel with the old and how well were we going to do?  These senses was heightened when with in minutes Malvern were 5-0 up and meaning business. Hinckley playing against the wind, battled hard to stay in the game and were fairly lucky to turn around at halftime 5-3 down.

The second half however was a different display as the team settled and started to play with a style and a confidence that only bodes well for the future. A fantatsic home debut by Glover as he pinged over 3 drop goals from all around the park was a highlight. In fact Malvern also dropped a goal which meant the Leicester Rd faithful were treated to as many successes of this dying art as they had seen in the last 10 years!

A break by Keeling with List backing up created the 1st try and some great interplay led to List’s 2nd try. Johnson by this stage was becoming more and more influential and a barnstorming, bull dozing run of 1 yard by the impressive Peck allowed him to score on debut!

By this time Hinckley were piling on the pressure and going for the bonus point when a misplaced kick enabled the plucky Malvern side to break at speed. They looked certain to score however a brutal tackle from Swadling  ended their ambitions and left Hinckley looking back on a successful afternoon and a 33-8 scoreline.

Don’t forget a Match Report volunteer is required so you budding reporters get your pencil’s sharp!!
