Under 7s
Hinckley U7s unbeaten and on-form against Rugby St. Andrews
Away to St. Andrews was a daunting prospect for the young and developing squad of U7s, but following a well-respected 2 minutes silence by the young group of players, the nerves soon settled and the first game got under way. Despite early tries from St. Andrews, Hinckley came back to level the game with Hubbard and Babb scoring one each. Defensively, Hinckley were superb, taking tag after tag with Inman, in particular, halting the opposition’s attempts to score with a terrific tally, well into double figures. With the score level, both teams were determined not to fall behind, but with some exceptional play by the home and away players, the game finished 5-5 with Hubbard adding one more try, and a further two from Inman for Hinckley.
In the second game, fresh legs were sent out by both teams. With confidence brimming, Hinckley was never going to lose this one. Play flowed well, as Hinckley passed and progressed to St Andrew’s line, with tries from Massarella, Horton (2), Barnes, Lockett, Towers (2) and three from Payne whose defensive play was also inspiring with 16 individual tags. The game ended 6-10 to Hinckley and gave the players in the final match a real boost.
In the last game the run of play continued much as it had in the second, with tries for Lockett (3), Sansome, Colloby, and Payne proving too much for St. Andrews, who, despite 4 tries of their own, lost out to the sheer determination and teamwork showed by the Hinckley team. Final score 4-6. A great outing for this young squad, and yet again the fixture was well attended, supported, coached and refereed. Thanks to all involved.

Under 8s
Hinckley go undefeated against Rugby St Andrews.
A cold winter’s morning once again saw the Hinckley U8s put on impressive displays over three hard fought matches. The first match saw Hinckley going in at the half way stage one try to the good and what a try it was, from the ever improving Pye who is in his debut season. The second half saw another three tries added to the tally with only two in response from the home team. So the final score was 20-10 with second half try scorers being Coupland(2) and Whitehurst.
A good start then, but the second game saw a very close encounter with Rugby St Andrews improving as the morning progressed. With the score 15-5 at half time in favour of Hinckley the tables turned and Rugby found some form and managed to score three trys in succession giving them a 5 point lead going in to the last play of the match. As the game moved towards its conclusion it needed a special individual effort from this season’s top try scorer Whitehurst to rescue Hinckley’s blushes and give a final score of 20-20 with tries from England, Dimbleby and Coupland.
So the third and final game of the morning got under way with the under 8s determined to secure a fixture victory and they didn’t disappoint. To the pleasure of Head Coach Campion the team finally demonstrated their passing game and kept the opposition at bay with some excellent defensive work resulting in a hard fought 35-25 victory with the tries coming from Whitehurst(3), Campion(2), Dimbleby and Coupland. A fine team performance.
Under 9s
Under 9s try feast at the home of Rugby
Hinckley Under 9s sponsored by J.Oliver (Snap On Tools) travelled to the home of Rugby, and once again fielding Lions and Tigers in what proved to be a try feast for Hinckley.
Match 1:
Hinckley Lions were first to take on Rugby St Andrews, and from the whistle hunted down their opponents and with virtually the first attack of the match Inman sprung into action to cross for Hinckley’s first try, this seemed to set the pace for a dominant performance, Crowfoot and Lockett continually driving through the Rugby defence, and with Ellershaw on hand to release quick ball to Hinckley’s pacey backs stormed to a 15pts to 0pts first half score, further great solo efforts coming from Phipps, Ellershaw.
The second half Hinckley’s forwards continued to batter their way through the Rugby defence, which they clearly struggled to cope with. Hinckley also quicker to pick up any loose ball and spreading it wide time after time allowing Inman, Phipps and Ellershaw to cross for three more tries, great defensive tackling from Dalby, Upton, Lockett and Crowfoot helped to turn ball over again and again, and with only one meaningful attack from Rugby which they converted for a consolation try, the match ended with Hinckley convincing Winners. Hinckley 30pts Rugby St Andrews 5pts.
Match2:
After a bruising encounter with the Lions, Rugby took a short break to ready themselves for another match this time with the Tigers.
But once again Hinckley proved to be too strong with Davey, Coghlan, Oliver driving forward penetrating the Rugby defence with ease, once again quick ball this time from Clarke releasing Nixon, Sharkey, Morrissey and O’Brien to cross and end the first half 20pts to 0pts.
The second half got worse for Rugby as Hinckley continued to pile on the pressure, great tackling from Davey, Coghlan, Nixon continually forcing Rugby back, and with Hinckley’s flying wingers Nixon, Sharkey, proving to quick for Rugby’s wannabe tacklers stormed over to further increase Hinckley’s lead to 35pts. Hinckley didn’t stop there, Coghlan getting in on the act and the tenacious Morrissey crossed for two more to complete his hat trick, with a little help from the Rugby referee. Final score Hinckley 45pts Rugby St Andrews 0pts.
