Match 1

Starting line up: Ridgeway, Campion, Pope, Heath, Jones, Hubbard, Sharkey, Miller, Bower, Kershaw, Barnes and Davis. Subs used: Franklin, Fletcher, Baker, Sketchley, Gretton and Kaye.

Both sides were not fully awake at the kick off, however Hinckley reacted first, good work by the forwards set Sharkey up to go on jinking runs deep into the opposition half. Hinckley forwards piled on the pressure driving deep into St Andrews half. Good line out play set up Miller to go over for Hinckley.
The good work from the forwards continued, impressive scrum aging gave the back line the platform to go on deep runs, Barnes and Davis harassing the St Andrews defence. It was the forwards day today and they were camped on the try line many times allowing Bower and then Jones to go over and score.

St Andrews started their fight back in the second half with good runs from their back line, indiscipline from Hinckley gave them more ground and they went over for a try. Again St Andrews came on strong, good defensive tackling from Miller and Davis held them at bay and good kicking out of the Hinckley half relieved the pressure. Pope with the forwards broke the St Andrews defence setting Bower up for his second score. St Andrews came back with another try, Heath countered that score but the damage was done and a victory for Hinckley.

Final score 25 – 10

Match 2

A carbon copy of the first game, good pressure from the start saw the Hinckley forwards go deep into the St Andrews half allowing Bower to go over for the first try. The hard work put in by the coaches and the lads has started to pay off with good interplay between forwards and backs. St Andrews had no answer to this allowing Ridgeway, Sharkey and then Gretton to score.

St Andrews came back in the second half as before, however great tackling from Ridgeway, Kaye and Miller kept them at bay, but only for so long with them running in two tries.  Hinckley heads did not drop and Sharkey from the fullback position made some great catches and set up several counter attacks, one of these led to Davis going over to score. Pope and Campion made impressive runs late on to finish the game on a high and another Hinckley visctory.

Final score 25 – 10

Match 1: St.Andrews 0 – Hinckley 40

A fast paced first half saw the Hinckley team take the game to the opposition from the off with a tremendous series of runs with Cox and Bevan being particularly skilful in their penetrating runs. The tries quickly mounted up, with Tuffin thunderously tearing over the line for the first, this was quickly followed by tries from Lowndes, Tuffin again, Bevan and finally in a inspired move which saw Lowdnes steal the ball from a St.Andrews scrum and pass quickly to Bevan who made a gargantuan run through the defenders before passing back off surreptitiously to Lowdnes who landed magnificently over the try line to bring the half to an end.
A much more competitive 2nd half saw plenty of action for the forwards as they stifled every St.Andrews move and a series of rucks and mauls were played out up and down the length of the field before Wilkin peeled gracefully off from the ruck to launch the ball into the capable hands of Reeves who struck home for the only try of the 2nd half.
Tries: Tuffin / Tuffin Converted; Lowdnes / Tuffin Converted; Tuffin / Tuffin Converted; Collings / Bevan Converted; Lowdnes; Reeves / Rowe converted.

Match 2: St.Andrews 0- Hinckley 21

The 2nd match of the day was a much more physical game, with the forwards running the ball bravely into a spirited St.Andrews defence, the first try falling to Collings. Shortly afterwards the ball was spirited away from an opposition line-out, the ball arcing across the field from Houghton, Reeves, James and then crossed back again to Houghton who pirouetted neatly across the line to score with all the panache of a seasoned professional.
The 2nd half looked set to finish with little to add to the score before a rash kick from St.Andrews saw the ball picked up by the ever present Baker who in a prescient moment passed the ball moments before a mammoth tackle pressed him firmly into the ground but not before seeing the recipient of his pass, Ward, struggle through a wall of defenders to score the final try of the half and the game.
Tries: Collings / Croasdale converted; Houghton / Steele converted; Ward / James converted.
