Under 11s & 12s v Lutterworth
Sunday 22nd November 2009
Under 11s
Today was not the U11’s day. Stand out displays from Miller and Sharkey could not save Hinckley going down to their first defeat of the season losing all three games 14-0, 19-0 and 5-0.
Under 12s
Hinckley under 12’s sponsored by Electrical Network Solutions, DTP, Next and Central Networks played host to Lutterworth on Sunday.
Match 1
Hinckley started the match with an excellent kick and chase, immediately putting Lutterworth under pressure and forcing the away side into mistakes. A powerful Hinckley pack secured good ball from the scrum and set the first attack loose which was thwarted by some solid Lutterworth defending in a congested midfield area. More Hinckley pressure brought another scrum, good quick ball was taken into contact by Hinckley but the forwards busted a gut to get to the breakdown and secure more ball, eventually allowing the backs to release Tuffin into space and score Hinckley’s first try, converted by Baker. Hinckley continued to graft and came close to scoring on several occasions with some constructive forward play outwitting the opposition but not the whistle. The conditions were not ideal but Hinckley continued to attempt to piece together as much running rugby as possible and were rewarded as Tuffin swerved his way through the Lutterworth defence to add Hinckley’s second try. Lutterworth responded with a deep kick off, pinning Hinckley back with some committed play which was defended well with some great clearance kicking from Baker and Rowe at crucial stages. In the second half Hinckley made several changes and Lutterworth came flying out of the blocks to catch the home side cold. Lutterworth were able to keep the ball alive for long periods and stretch the Hinckley defence, running in from halfway to score. Although Hinckley continued to dominate the scrum Lutterworth were allowed to play at a tempo they were more comfortable with, again putting Hinckley on the back foot to score. Hinckley responded though with some determined work from White, stealing possession from a maul and running in to score an excellent effort for Hinckley’s third try, Padbury converting. Lutterworth fought back, Hinckley’s Croasdale stopping a certain score with an excellent last ditch tackle. As full time approached Hinckley went on the attack, a Lutterworth defender rushed on to intercept the ball and run in a try for the away side.
Final Score, Hinckley 19 – 19 Lutterworth.
Match 2
The scoreline from match one reflected the early play as the two sides battled for control early on. The competitive rugby on show was excellent and with the play evenly balanced and half time close Houghton sprinted in from a maul to score for Hinckley. In the second half Hinckley took control and spent much of the time camped in the Lutterworth half as the pressure of having to cope with Hinckley’s relentless strength in the rucks and mauls started to take its toll on the Lutterworth defence allowing Ames to dive in and score for Hinckley, Tuffin converting. The pressure continued and Hinckley won a penalty from some desperate Lutterworth defending from which Bevan ran in to score from close range.
Final Score, Hinckley 17 – 0 Lutterworth.
