Match 3:-  West Bridgford 5 Hinckley 0

Hinckley under 10’s travelled to Oakham for a triangular fixture with Oakham and West Bridgford.
Hinckley started well after a long break from matches over the Christmas period. They drove Oakham back in the first half of the first game with Jordan finally pushing the ball over the try line.
Oakham replied in the second half to square the first match.

Hinckley struggled in their second game with a second  Oakham  team running in four tries.
In the final encounter, West Bridgford took an early lead in a closely fought contest.
Hinckley played some strong driving rugby in the second half, but were unable to reach the West Bridgford try line.

Hinckley U11’s v Oakham and West Bridgeford

Team line up: Pope, Campion, Ridgeway, Sperry, Heath, Hubbard, Sharkey, Miller, Bower, Barnes Gretton,  Davis, Sketchley, Thorpe, Jones, Franklin, Fletcher, Kershaw and Kaye.

Match 1 v Oakham A

Hinckley got off to a decent start considering this was their first competitive game since mid December, pressure was applied right from the kick off. The forwards scrimmaged well setting up a platform for the backs to stretch their legs. Oakham however are not unbeaten this season for nothing and defended well and were quick on the counter attack. Good tackling from Heath and Campion kept the opposition making any ground and the first half ended scoreless.
A similar start to the second half saw Hinckley push Oakham back to their try line and attack after attack was thwarted. A midfield battle between to very even sides ensued, good runs by Sharkey and Miller came to nothing as Oakham tackled well. In the end time ran out for both sides with the game drawn at the final whistle.

Final score 0-0

Match 2 v Oakham B

From the kick off Hinckley ran the ball deep into the opposition half. Great jinking from Davis opened up the Oakham defence time after time. Hinckley were unlucky not to score and good defensive kicking got the opposition out of trouble on several occasions. Gretton got in some big tackles when they did breakout. Hinckley forwards Jones and Ridgeway combined well smashing their way through the opposition, however the first half ended 0-0.
Sharkey, miller and Davis started the second half well putting some good passes together and getting deep into the Oakham half. The opposition had a bit more grit this half and kept Hinckley at bay for long passages of the half. Totally against the run of play Oakham broke away and scored, this was to close to the final whistle for Hinckley to mount a reply.

Final score 0-5

Match 3 v West Bridgeford A

Again, a good start from Hinckley, the forwards winning good ball, setting up Bower and Sharkey to burst through. Pope and Ridgeway cleaned up any loose ball and ploughed head long into the opposition. Despite a lot of effort the half ended with no score.
Hinckley then turned it up a notch with some great play from all the team, driven back, West Bridgeford had no answer to Pope from 5 yards, at last a try! This spurred the team on to set up attack after attack, Davis and Sharkey getting to get some speed up and test the defence. All this pressure paid off and Miller stretched over to score right and the end.

Final score 10-0

Match 4 v West Bridgeford A+B

Bridgeford started this game well, pressuring deep in to the Hinckley half. However the boys in black and gold were not about to be beaten, Davis breaking out and getting great support form his team mates. Davis inspired up until the halftime whistle, Hinckley were beginning to edge the game in their favour.
The second half saw Bower making good runs, aided by Franklin and Jones, Heath and Miller racking up the tackles. Unfortunately as Hinckley turned the screw time ran out and another draw.

Final score 0-0

Under 12s

Oakham hosted a triangular against Hinckley & West Bridgeford.

Oakham v Hinckley
This was Hinckley’s first game for a number of weeks due to the Christmas break and the icy weather. The game got off to a good start from the kick off with Hinckley very nearly getting over the try line. Unfortunately this was their best spell of the first half as a strong Oakham then tore into Hinckley with 4 tries all from open running play.  Hinckley were guilty of poor tackling and did not adjust quickly enough to playing on a full size pitch.  The second half was much better and Hinckley kept Oakham pinned in their own half, retaining possession. Indiscipline by Oakham resulted in numerous penalties and Hinckley were rewarded with a try by Baker with a quick tap and dive over the line. Final score was 20-5 to Oakham

West Bridgeford v Hinckley
The second game was against West Bridgeford who took the game to Hinckley immediately scoring two well worked tries take lead 10-0 at half time. Hinckley, although behind, did not give up and fought back well. The second half was very even matched and after a spell of sustained pressure Hinckley won a penalty right by the try line.  Ward scored from this to take the score to 10-5.  Hinckley were now moving the ball around well and Steele grabbed another try levelling the score. West Bridgeford nudged back into the lead and looked like they were going to win the game, however, Steele made a superb run down the wing through 3 defenders and powered over the line to draw the game 15-15.

Oakham v Hinckley
Hinckley had another chance against Oakham.  Oakham took the lead early on and due to poor tackling were up 10-0 and it looked like being a re-run of the first game.  Then Hinckley got into gear and attacked with Ward getting a try leaving the score at 10-5 at half time.  Hinckley started to build some momentum in the second half and started passing the ball around well.  Enthused by a good spell of dominance, Hinckley pinned Oakham back and Steele bagged his third try of the day. Final score 10-10.
Man of the day was Matt Ward
