The Under 10s competed in the preliminary round of the County Cup at Leicester Forest RFC.
The first game was an exciting clash between Hinckley and Coalville with both teams putting in a tremendous effort. Coalville crossed the line first with Cavanagh replying for Hinckley shortly before half time. In the second half, both teams fought hard but were unable to break the deadlock.
The second game was another evenly matched contest with some great defensive play. Neither Hinckley or Lutterworth managed to break through to reach the try line.
Hinckley put in a huge effort in their final game against Leicester Forest but were unable to stop them from breaking through to score five tries.
At the end of the fixture Horsler was awarded Hinckley player of the month for January.
Under 11s
Squad: Ridgeway, Pope, Campion, Heath, Sperry, Jones, Franklin, Hubbard, Bower, Sharkey, Fletcher, Kershaw, Davis, Gretton, Barnes, Miller, Thorpe and Sketchley.
Match 1 v Coalville
An error strewn start to the match saw Hinckley apply the early pressure. It was clear to see the Hinckley forwards were up for it today, great driving from the pack demolished the opposition. From this platform Sharkey was able to weave his magic and go over for the first try, 5-0. Barnes from the restart flew down the wing and from the resulting maul Pope was able to bulldoze over to score a second for Hinckley, 10-0. Coalville did pressure late on in the half but good defence and breakout from Davis set up the forwards again to drive to the opposition line and Heath going over to make it 15-0.
The second half saw more of the same, every scrum was won by the Hinckley pack, Jones and Ridgeway making good ground with the latter going over for Hinckley’s fourth try, 20-0. Hinckley then finished of the game with a great run from Gretton which allowed Sharkey to score his second of the day. Full time 25-0.

Match 2 v Lutterworth
Pressure from Lutterworth from the kick off put Hinckley on the back foot, and too many missed tackles allowed them in to score, 0-5. Heads did not drop though and the forwards took the fight to them, however the Lutterworth defence was solid and the Hinckley back line found it difficult to break their line.
The game was played to the most in the middle of the park with some great tackles being made from both sides. I cannot pick out any Hinckley individuals as they all played with grit and passion, time ran out for the boys in black and gold to even the score, but there is always next time. Final score 0-5.

Match 3 v Leicester Forrest
A carbon copy of game 2, early errors allowed the opposition to score, 0-5. This time the forwards had a decent pack to go up against, but they did not falter setting up Sharkey and Davis to go on jinking runs. Up until half time the game could have gone to either side, only key tackles saved both sides. The second half saw Barnes again hare off down the field linking up with Miller, only great defence from Leicester Forrest keeping them at bay.
Right up until the final whistle Hinckley kept attacking, but as before time ran out. Final score 0-5.
Under 12s
Leicester Forest RFC hosted the preliminary round of the County Cup.
Coalville v Hinckley
Hinckley’s opening game was against Coalville who were unfortunately a man down from the start. Hinckley started well with tries from Collings & James within the space of 2 minutes. Hinckley moved the ball around excellently and continued to apply pressure to a plucky Coalville side with Cox getting a try followed shortly by Houghton. Collings bagged another from a tap & go penalty just before half time. The second half kicked off in a similar vein, this time Baker getting an early try right from the kick off. Forwards & backs linked up well keeping Coalville on their toes. Coalville were no match for Hinckley’s scrum and the final move of the match saw Ward power over the line.
Final score was 0-35

Lutterworth v Hinckley
The second game was against Lutterworth who proved to be tougher opponents. Hinckley scored through Baker after a long spell of possession and then continued to dominate the game although they were not able to convert this into points – many decisions did not go their way which allowed Lutterworth to hold back Hinckley. The second half saw Hinckley completely in control of the game retaining the ball for most of the half. Hinckley made wave after wave of attacks and Lutterworth were unable to stop a try from Houghton which sealed the game 0-10.

Leicester Forest v Hinckley
The final game of the day was against the hosts who provided the strongest challenge of the day. Leicester Forest scored in the corner to take the lead. The game was very evenly matched throughout with neither side looking like breaking the other down. Hinckley tried in vain to get over the Leicester Forest try line but were extremely unfortunate with many decisions going against them allowing the opposition to retain their lead until the final whistle. Final score 5-0
Man of the tournament went to the whole squad for a determined performance and never say die attitude.
