After only 3 games in 13 weeks of a weather hit programme Hinckley TMF Volvo under 13’s thoroughly out classed a strong Market Bosworth side in a late arranged game at Leicester Road..

Jordan Sephton celebrated his birthday in style putting 3 tries in his typical robust manner but it was forward Joe Crease who opened Hinckleys account with the first try giving Bosworth a taste of things to come.

Two very stylish tries by the ever classy Ryan Letts, with one, a solo run of 60 metres, leaving the defence in total disarray. Callum Howkins and Tom Atkinson both ran in well worked scores and although Bosworth never gave up the fight, scoring a try in the first half and two in the second, conversions by Sam Bruce and Max Spencer only widened the gap to give a final score of Hinckley RFC U13’s 44 Market Bosworth U13’s 17.
Match 4: Hinckley 0 – Oadby Wyggs 15

Hinckley under 10’s visited Oval park for a series of games with Oadby Wyggs RFC.
Hinckley took a large squad and effectively fielded two teams over the course of the tie.
In match number one Hinckley Bees took a while to get into the game and lost by a couple of tries.
In the second game the Wasps fared better. Haines and Weeks made their debuts for Hinckley in a close and exciting game. Jordan crossed the line first, followed by a well deserved try for Gibson who had been battling hard for all of the game. KT Jones scored the third for Hinckley to win the game.
In the third match the Bees were beaten again but were putting in some much better tackles.
In the last game, the Wasps were also beaten but again put up some strong resistance throughout the game.

Under 11s

Match 1
Team line up: Ridgeway, Rymell, Pope, Madden, Franklin, Fletcher, Marchesi, Sharkey, Miller, Kershaw, Barnes and Gretton

A good start to the first match of the day saw the Hinckley forwards go deep in the Oadby half. Pope, Rymell and Madden putting themselves about a field well. Oadby defence held strong and were able to break out with slick hands and speed they went over and scored, 7-0. Hinckley replied quickly, good set up from the forwards saw Miller score, 7-7. Good inter play between Marchesi, Sharkey and Miller saw the Hinckley backs run riot and Miller go over to score again, 7-14. Not to be out done Hinckley forwards pushed forward and set Pope to smash over and score, 7-21.
Second half saw Barnes and Kershaw make great runs down the wing, at this point Oadby had no answer to the Hinckley onslaught with Pope going over, 7-28 and then Sharkey, 7-33. Oadby dug deep and their ever dangerous backs nipped in to score, 14-33. Oadby finished strong, however the boys in black and gold had a last push setting up Fletcher to score. Final score 7-40.

Match 2
Team Line up: Sperry, Campion, Pope, Heath, Jones, Bower, Marchesi, Sharkey, Miller, Kershaw, Gretton and Davis. Subs Ridgeway and Barnes.

Another good start from Hinckley, the pack dominant right from the start. Strength and persistence saw Jones go over for the first try, 0-7. Bower straight away went over to score again, 0-14. Oadby then woke up and put up a stiff defence, however text book play saw Gretton go over in the corner, 0-21. Oadby had no answer to the Hinckley pack, Jones ruling the line out gave the backs good supply allowing Miller to weave his magic and score, 0-28. The second half saw more great play from Hinckley, Davis, Kershaw and Ridgeway making some great runs. More tries were inevitable with Davis, Campion and Miller (2) scoring. Oadby backs always looked dangerous but could not dent the Hinckley defence on this occasion. Final score 0-61.

Match 3
Team Line up: As match 1, subs Sperry, Campion, Heath, Jones, Barnes and Davis.

The final match of the day saw Hinckley play some great Rugby, forwards and backs playing some of the best football this reporter has seen them play. Fletcher supplying the backs led to quick hands moving the ball out and Sharkey scoring, 0-5. Powerful driving from Pope and Ridgeway paved the way for Miller to nip in and score, 0-10. Oadby still had some fight in them and continued to tackle well and as said before were dangerous on the break out. However more tries from Sharkey, Ridgeway and Gretton finished them off and the game ended 0-25.

A great performance from all the lads today, well done to all of them for putting on a great display.

Under 12s

Match 1
Hinckley started well and the contest was even but with the ball often falling for a dangerous Oadby side Hinckley conceded two early scores. Hinckley rallied with one huge maul turning defence into attack shifting the momentum and Collings impressively ran in to score after some dominant Hinckley phases split the Oadby defence. Hinckley continued with great desire and levelled with a determind effort from White. In the second half Hinckley allowed the more urgent Oadby to run in another two soft tries but Hinckley responded once again Collings finishing off from close range. Hinckley went all out for a result and came so close, unfortunately the run of play going against them for Oadby to score on the whistle.
Final score – Oadby Wyggs 25 – 15 Hinckley

Match 2
The play swung for and against Hinckley in the early exchanges with both sides organised and committed in the contact. Hinckley gained a close range penalty from which Collings scored to give Hinckley a slender half time lead. The second half was a test of Oadby’s metal as the Hinckley forwards took control and caused mayhem allowing Tuffin to race into the corner. Hinckley were simply too hot to handle and warmed up the crowd on several occasions coming close. An appearance by the sun couldn’t outshine Hinckley as the forwards powered into the opposition defence the backs seized their moment for Gage to finish off a beautiful try and the brightest moment of the morning. Oadby bravely crossed to score a consolation try to which Hinckley once again switched on the power for White to dive over.
Final score – Oadby Wyggs 5 – 20 Hinckley

Man of the match went to Collings for his impressive work rate.

The sun shone for the morning’s play at Oadby Wyggestonians as Hinckley U7s took 3 teams of players to the Tigers’ Training ground.

Play got under way quickly with 3 games to be played in succession. In the first game Hinckley were strong defensively with a haul of 12 individual tags for Thomas while Lockett opened the scoring with an excellent diagonal run from right to left of the wide pitch. Burton followed Lockett’s lead with 3 tries of his own showing tremendous pace and evasive play as the opposition closed on him. Additional tries from Lockett, Babb (2) and Towers ensured Hinckley stayed ahead throughout the match, despite a collection of good tries from Oadby. 7-8 was the score at the final whistle – a deserved victory for Hinckley.

The second game kicked off with fresh teams for each side. Although Oadby scored the first try, Hinckley didn’t let them hold the lead for long. Sansome equalised in the next run of play, and Inman helped Hinckley into the lead with a well placed try in the corner of the pitch. The gap opened further with Colloby and Payne adding to the tally. A fight back from Oadby following touchline mistakes by Hinckley closed the gap, but Inman, Payne and Colloby ensured a second win to make the final score 7-8.

Hinckley’s youngest players lined up to see if Hinckley could return home with 3 wins from 3. Oadby however had other ideas. Having lost by narrow-margins in the first two games, they stepped up the pace, and Hinckley were soon 3-0 down. Barnes led Hinckley’s fight back well with inspiring defending and 2 well-taken tries. Oadby kept exposing holes Hinckley’s defensive line however, and despite another try for Hinckley from Goodwin, the game ended 10-3.

Two wins from three with some good team and individual performances.

Under 8s need a volunteer to write match reports.

Under 9s

Hinckley Under 9s Sponsored by Jason Oliver (Snap On Tools), travelled to Oadby Wyggs with a large squad, once again allowing them to field Lions and Tigers in what proved to be a tough series of matches.

Match:1
Tigers started well against the home side despite some awful attempts at tackling, along with the forwards failing to compete in the rucks, although Howe put in a good tackle count, despite this the home side failed to capitalize due to some handling errors of their own, but it was Hinckley who took the half time lead, a burst from Wilford who rounded off a great debut.
The second half Oadby pilled on the pressure with some excellent tackling forcing Hinckley into numerous handling errors, this spurred on the home side who managed to cross to level the game,Hinckley heads dropped which allowed Oadby to dominate and cross again to seal the match Oadby 10pts Hinckley 5pts.

Match:2
Lions up next and this time started the better, the forwards showed great rucking skills lead by Lockett, along with the help of Upton and Johnson presented quick ball which was moved quickly through the backs, who inturn were quickly closed down by the very good tackling home side, despite this Hinckley lead at half time Nixon crossing for Hinckley.
The second half continued to be an evenly matched contest, but it was Oadby who edged out the visitors with two tries ending the game Oadby 10pts Hinckley 5pts

Match:3
Saw Lions and Tigers taking a half each against Oadby,Tigers first with a far better display from the forwards, great rucking from Davey, and Coghlan showing his strength to cross for Hinckley’s first score, but it was Hinckley’s poor tackling again which allowed Oadby back into the game ending the half, Hinckley 10pts Oadby 10pts. Howe scoring Hinckley’s 2nd.
Tigers coming on for the second half which again saw Oadby dominate especially in the tackles, Hinckley failing to hold on to any Oadby player which allowed them in to cross for two further tries to end the game Oadby 20pts Hinckley 10pts.

Under 11s

Squad: Ridgeway, Sketchley, Thorpe, Heath, Jones, Hubbard, Bower, Miller, Sharkey, Fletcher, Davis, Campion, Pope, Marchesi, Barnes, Madden and Rymell.

Match 1 v Barker Butts

Our first game of the day was a very even affair in the first half. Both sides tested each other but neither making any real ground. By the end of the half Hinckley forwards were beginning to dominate and pressured the Barkers defence. This gave Bower the opportunity to steal the ball and dive over for a try, half time 7-0.

A great start to the second half saw more great forward play, setting up the backs and Miller going over in the corner, 14-0. The boys in black and gold piled on the pressure, Bower and Davis combining to break the defence and let the forwards carry on and let Pope power over for another try 19-0.

Hinckley soaked up the pressure and defended well keeping Barkers at bay until the final whistle. Full time 19-0

Match 2 v Sutton Coldfield

Similar to the first match Hinckley and Sutton were very evenly matched. The Sutton pack proved a good challenge to the Hinckley forwards, but not trying to sound biased the Hinckley pack just had the upper hand in all areas of play. The first half was played out in the middle of the park with few chances to break from either side, halt time 0-0.

A great kick off lead to a perfect line out and great hands from the backs saw Sharkey go over and score, 7-0.

This brought Sutton back into the game and they played some good rugby leading to them going over to score. Hinckley heads did not drop and runs from Ridgeway and Jones tested the opposition defence and silky handling skills from Marchesi let the backs attack the Sutton defence. The match ended in a well earned draw which was the right result for the day. Full time 7-7.
Barker Butts hosted a triangular against Hinckley & Sutton Coldfield.

Hinckley v Sutton Coldfield

Hinckley’s first game was against Sutton Coldfield who were on the back foot from the beginning with Hinckley applying constant pressure which led to the first try from Roberts which was converted by Baker. Hinckley used their powerful scrum as a platform to set up more attacks on Sutton Coldfield’s try line and were rewarded by another Roberts try, again converted by Baker. Hinckley made a few mistakes resulting in consecutive penalties but Sutton couldn’t capitalise on this and failed to break through the Hinckley back line. Half time score was 14-0. Hinckley continued in much the same way in the second half with another try from Houghton following a good set of pick-up & drives by the forwards. Rowe converted to make it 21-0. Again, Hinckley were penalised near to their own try line – this time Sutton were able to grab a consolation try which they also converted. A convincing won for Hinckley with the final score 21-7.
Hinckley v Barker Butts

Barker Butts were Hinckley’s next opponents and they stamped their authority on the game early on with a converted try in the corner. Hinckley same back strong attacking Barker Butt’s try line time multiple times but were unable to get the equaliser. Barker Butts tried to build on their lead but thanks to a resolute defence and a great tackling display by Hinckley, they could not press home their advantage.
A determined Hinckley fought back strongly in the second half shipping the ball around excellently – one of the attacks found Croasdale out wide who side stepped two defenders to score a try in the corner. Baker converted to level the score 7-7. Hinckley, unlucky with many decisions not going their way, had to defend constantly as Barker Butts applied the pressure. A frustrated Hinckley continued to get penalised and were pushed back to their try line. In the last moments of the game Barker Butt’s had a crucial penalty but the crescendo of the Hinckley supporters combined with the sheer determination of every player managed to stop Barker Butt’s with a superb display of tackling, turning a last gasp defence into a powerful counter attack. In a thrilling finish, Hinckley almost broke through before the final whistle sounded. A well deserved draw.
