Hinckley shot themselves in the foot with a performance in the 1st 10 mins which left them 15 points down and too much to do in the next 70 mins. Poor organisation with players turning up at 1.50pm for a 2.15pm KO did not help matters nor did the majority of the coaching staff being away on the day.

Although Hinckley’s lineout did not function all day, Hinckley mange to regain some composure and put some good passages of play together but the damage was done. Next week again Hereford becomes a key game. One where we need to draw a line in the sand – where consistency resulting in a win rather than patches of good and bad resulting in a loss is the order of the day. We will see!

Hinckley went into their third league game of the season, on the back of two impressive and hard fought victories, welcoming a huge Peterborough side to Leicester Road.

Hinckley started strongly, throwing the ball out wide early on showing their intent to attack. The home team were rewarded early on, with a penalty from Joe Glover as the home side applied immediate pressure on the visiting club. New boy Matt Fearne continued his excellent form with a powerful break through the Peterborough defence, the flanker touched down close to the posts making the job of adding the extras easier for Joe Glover. Hinckley continued to dominate the first half, the hot conditions suited the lighter, more mobile home pack, resulting in Peterborough conceding two more penalties, which Glover converted to make it 16-0. Prodigal flanker Wayne Johnson concluded the first half scoring with a searing break down the left hand touchline to touch down and leave the score at 21-0 at the break.

Peterborough began the second half strongly and a defensive lapse allowed the visitors to score a converted try early on. However Hinckley replied immediately, as second row Thomas Sanderson found himself in space and with a clear run under the posts, Glover added the conversion. Further indiscipline from the away side saw the second row sin binned, applying more pressure on themselves. However another mental lapse in the Hinckley defence allowed Peterborough to score from a driving maul, with a man down, angering the Hinckley pack, who prides themselves on their strong technical defence. Hinckley again responded positively, with some excellent midfield defence which allowed captain Ben Ashfield to turn the ball over a speed away under the posts and secure the bonus point, again Joe Glover added the extras, to round off yet another superb kicking display, making it 35-14. Hinckley sat back and relaxed, maintaining to kick possession away and allow a dangerous back three to counter attack. Flanker Wayne Johnson went from hero to zero in the last few minutes for a professional foul, resulting in a yellow card. The home side were forced to defend for the last few plays as the visitors applied heavy pressure, resulting in a consolation try and conversion, rounding up the scoring at 35-21.

This did not dampen Hinckley's spirits as the Leicester Road side made it three wins from three in National 3 Midlands, securing two bonus points in the process and now sit at the top of the table. Next week Hinckley travel to Luton, who lie at second in the table.
